2 Kings 4: 1-7  Now a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to
Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the
LORD; and the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.”
2  Elisha said
to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said,
“Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”
3  Then he said, “Go,
borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbors, even empty vessels; do not get
a few.
4  “And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour out
into all these vessels, and you shall set aside what is full.”
5  So she went from him and
shut the door behind her and her sons; they were bringing the vessels to her and she
poured.
6  When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And
he said to her, “There is not one vessel more.” And the oil stopped.
 7  Then she came and
told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your
sons can live on the rest.”

1)  We Must Ask to Receive

Verse 2   Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you?

We must ask for what we wish to receive from God.

1 Kings 3: 4-5  And the king went to Gideon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high
place; Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.
5  In Gideon the LORD
appeared to Solomon in a dream at night; and God said, "Ask what you wish me to give
you."

King Solomon went to offer burnt offerings to God with the intent of his heart to ASK and
RECEIVE understanding and discernment from God.  God asked King Solomon "ASK what
you wish me to give to you."    We must ask to receive from God.  WE HAVE NOT
BECAUSE WE ASK NOT.

2 Chronicles 1: 11 And God said to Solomon, "Because you had this in mind, and did not
ask for riches, wealth, or honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked
for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge, that you may rule My
people, over whom I have made you king,

King Solomon came to God to ask and receive from God. This scripture says "you had this
in your mind!!!"  Solomon's intent of coming to God was to ask and receive from God.

1 Kings 3: 12 behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a
wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one
like you arise after you.

We will receive from God according to our words---according to what we have asked for.

Matt 7:7  Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be
opened to you.  8.  “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him
who knocks it will be opened.

Matt 21: 22  And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Mark 11; 24  Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you
have received them, and they will be granted you.

John 14:13-14 Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.  14.  “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it
will be done for you.

John 16:23-24 In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to
you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.
24 “Until now you
have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made
full.

James 4:2-3  You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and
cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
 3  You
ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on
your pleasures.

WE MUST ASK to RECEIVE.  WE MUST ASK IN PURE MOTIVES TO RECEIVE.

King Solomon came to God with pure motives to ask and receive from God all that he
asked of Him.

Come to God’s altar as King Solomon did and let all your impure motives be crucified in you
by God.   We will receive from God after our flesh is crucified on His altar and we now ask
Him with a pure heart and with pure motives.

2) We must be oblivious to the obvious and be obvious to God

Verse 2   Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the
house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.”

This woman was obvious to the circumstances that surrounded her and at this point she
was oblivious to the provision that God had for her.

We should be oblivious to the circumstances that surround us and obvious to God and His
word.

2 Kings 6: 14-17 He sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by
night and surrounded the city.
15 Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen
early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his
servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?"
16 So he answered, "Do not fear,
for those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
17 Then Elisha prayed
and said, "O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." And the LORD opened the
servant's eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire
all around Elisha.

Elisha's servant had his eyes on the circumstances and the situation that faced them. All he
could see was the army that came to attack them.  All he could see is what the enemy
planned to do to them if he could.  His eyes were on the obvious.  His eyes were not on
God. His eyes were oblivious to God.   Elisha's servant was obvious to the circumstances
and the situation and he was oblivious to God and what God planned to do on his behalf.

Elisha had his eyes on God.  Elisha's eyes were not on the the army that came to attack.
Elisha's eyes were not on what the enemy planned to do if he could. Elisha  was oblivious
to the circumstances and the situation.  Elisha was obvious to God.  His eyes were open to
God and because his eyes sought God he could see the army of God who would fight on
his behalf.

Let us be oblivious to the circumstances and the situations that surround us.  Let our eye
be single--set on God and see His deliverance he has planned for us in the midst of our
situations.

3) You will receive according to the measure you are willing to stretch out to in
faith and belief.

Verse 3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbors,
even empty vessels; do not get a few.

Matthew 8: 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; let it be done to you as you
have believed."

Matt 9: 29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, "It shall be done to you according to your
faith."

We will receive from God according to the measure of faith that we stretch out to in faith
and belief in Him
.

Matt 15: 28 Then Jesus said to her, "O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you
as you wish." And her daughter was healed at once.

Matt 17:20  And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to
you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from
here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

We can have great faith or we can have little faith.  What we receive from God is
determined by how far we are willing to stretch out and believe.

This woman had a challenge---how far would she step out in faith.  She was commanded to
not get a few.  Her faith and belief would determine how many vessels she would go and
get.  How far we stretch out in faith will determine how much we receive from God.

4) Our God is a God of more than enough

Verse 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay
your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”

When this woman stretched out in faith and belief --- God not only met her need but He
gave her more than enough!!!

God is God our Provider---Jehovah Jirah   God is also the God of More Than Enough---El
Shadai

God not only wants to meet your need but He wants to pour out to you more than enough.

2 Kings 4: 42-44  Now a man came from Baal-shalishah, and brought the man of God
bread of the first fruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And
he said, "Give them to the people that they may eat."
 43  His attendant said, "What,
will I set this before a hundred men?" But he said, "Give them to the people that they
may eat, for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left over.'"
44  So he
set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the
LORD.

Our God is the God of our provision---God always desires to pour out to us more than
enough.

Matt 14:15-20  When it was evening, the disciples came to Him and said, "This place is
desolate and the hour is already late; so send the crowds away, that they may go into the
villages and buy food for themselves."
16  But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go
away; you give them something to eat!"
17  They said to Him, "We have here only five
loaves and two fish."
18  And He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19  Ordering the people to
sit down on the grass, He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward
heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and
the disciples gave them to the crowds,
20  and they all ate and were satisfied. They picked
up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve full baskets.

Matt 15: 32-37 And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, "I feel compassion for the
people, because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat; and
I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way."
33 he disciples
said to Him, "Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a
large crowd?"
34  And Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they
said, "Seven, and a few small fish."
35  And He directed the people to sit down on the
ground;
36  and He took the seven loaves and the fish; and giving thanks, He broke them
and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.
37  And
they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces,
seven large baskets full.

God not only wants to give you enough---God wants to give you more than enough.  He
did so for the widow of the prophet in
2 Kings.  He did so for Elisha when he fed the
people. He did so as Jesus fed the people.

God does not want to just meet your need, God wants to give you more than enough!!!

Luke 6:38  "Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure,
pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will
be measured to you in return."

Our God is a God of abundance and He desires to pour forth abundantly into each of our
lives.  He desires to pour out into our laps a good measure, pressed down, shaken
together and running out all over.

What do you have need of from God today???

1) You must ask to receive.

2) You must be oblivious to the obvious (your circumstances and you situations) and be
obvious to God

3) You will receive according to the measure you are willing to stretch out to in faith and
belief.

Your God not only wants to meet your needs as your provider---He wants to pour out on
you more than enough!!!
