Hear the Word and Consume the Meat

Mark 4:3-9 "Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4. and it came about that as
he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5. "And
other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang
up because it had no depth of soil. 6. "And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and
because it had no root, it withered away. 7. "And other seed fell among the thorns, and the
thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8. "And other seeds fell into the good
soil and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a
hundredfold." 9. And He was saying, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
Those who hear the Word of God and consume it are those who are called the good soil in
this parable.
Matthew 13:14-18 "And in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,
'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; AND YOU WILL KEEP
ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; 15. FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS
BECOME DULL, AND WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE
CLOSED THEIR EYES LEST THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND HEAR WITH
THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I SHOULD
HEAL THEM.' 16. "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because
they hear. 17. "For truly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see
what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 18. "Hear
then the parable of the sower.
God wants us to have open ears which have the ability to hear the Word of God and
understand it. He is calling us to feast on and consume His word by HEARING!
Mark 4:14-20 "The sower sows the word. 15. "And these are the ones who are beside the
road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away
the word which has been sown in them. 16 "And in a similar way these are the ones on
whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately
receive it with joy; 17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then,
when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. 18.
"And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones
who have heard the word, 19. and the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches,
and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20.
"And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word
and accept it, and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."
Verse 14 tells us the seed that is sown is the word.
In verse 15 we are told of the seed that falls beside the road. These HEAR the Word and
immediately satan comes and takes away the word that had been sown in them.
Matthew says this of those who are beside the road.
Matthew 13:19 "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it,
the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart.
Satan is able to come and steal the Word that had been sown in them because they did not
hear the word with understanding. I believe these heard the word and esteemed it lightly
(applied no understanding) They did not join the Word they heard with faith and belief and
because of this satan was able to steal it away from them.
We must unite the Word of God with belief and faith!! If we do not satan is able to come and
steal it from us. We must not lightly esteem the word of God.
Luke says of those who are beside the road.
Luke 8:5 "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road;
and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the air ate it up.
I believe this trampling under foot is the hearing the Word of God and lightly esteeming it. I
believe it is hearing the Word of God and not adding understanding to it. I believe it is
hearing the Word of God and not combining it with faith and belief.
Luke goes on to say.
Luke 8:12 "And those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and
takes away the word from their heart, so that they may not believe and be saved.
Satan does not want us to understand the Word of God, add belief to it and be saved. The
word translated saved and salvation means saved, healed and delivered. It does not just
mean your salvation from sin, it also means in the Greek healed and delivered. We must
unite the Word of God with understanding and faith. When we do we will be saved, we will
be healed and we will be delivered.
In verses 16-17 of Mark we have ones who heard the word and receive it with joy.
Mark 14:16-17 "And in a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the
rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; 17 and they
have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution
arises because of the word, immediately they fall away.
God spoke to me that these are those who “taste” the word and say, “Oh that tasted so
good” and then walk away without consuming it, without eating and chewing on it. Because
they tasted and did not consume the Word of God they have no firm root in themselves.
These have not taken the Word of God in. They have tasted and said good but they have
not eaten!! They did not consume the Word of God, they did not eat and feast on the Word
of God.
Verse 17 of Mark tells us what happens to these who have no root in themselves— WHEN
PERSECUTION COMES THEY FALL AWAY-----WHEN THE ENEMY COMES WITH AN
ATTACK THEY FALL AWAW----WHEN THE BATTLE COMES THESES FALL AWAY!!!!
They have no word in them to stand on. These have no nourishment in them because they
have only tasted and not consumed the Word of God. When persecution comes, when the
battle comes they fall away.
Luke also says of these.
Luke 8:6 "And other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away,
because it had no moisture.
They had no moisture. I believe this again means they had no nourishment with in them from
not consuming the Word of God.
The Word of God is called water in Eph.5:26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed
her by the washing of water with the word,
In verses 18-19 of Mark we have ones who heard the word and choked on it as they
consumed it.
Mark 14:18-19 "And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these
are the ones who have heard the word, 19. and the worries of the world, and the
deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it
becomes unfruitful.
God said to me these choked on the Word of God and vomited it back up and thus it became
unfruitful in their lives. Choking on the Word and vomiting it back up has caused them to not
bring any fruit to maturity.
Luke says of these who choked on the Word.
Luke 8:14 "And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard,
and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this
life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
How are we choking on the Word of God and vomiting it back up?
We choke and vomit up the Word of God every time we let our circumstances (worries of this
world and life) dictate who and what we are, what we believe and what we say. We choke
and vomit up the Word of God every time we become entangled with the world (desires for
worldly things, desire for riches and pleasures) and this entanglement dictates who and what
we are, what we believe and what we say
We are to believe and speak out what the Word of God says in this midst of every
circumstance and every situation. We are to not be entangled with this world and its
desires.
In Verse 20 of Mark we have the ones of the good soil.
Mark 4:20 "And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear
the word and accept it, and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."
God spoke to me these have eaten and consumed the Word of God.
These have heard and accepted the Word of God. Because these have eaten and
consumed the Word of God they bear fruit, thirty, sixty and a hundredfold.
Matthew 13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who
hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a
hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty."
These have heard, understood and applied faith and belief to the Word. Because they have
consumed the Word they will grow up and increase and yield a crop. To bear fruit we must
hear and consume the Word of God.
Luke 8:15 "And the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in
an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.
I believe that holding the Word of God fast is our accepting it, understanding it and applying
faith and belief to it. I believe when we do so we will bear fruit with perseverance.
I believe this bearing fruit with perseverance is us not falling away when the persecution and
the battle comes.
Mark 4: 21-25 And He was saying to them, "A lamp is not brought to be put under a peck-
measure, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? 22. "For nothing
is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it should come to
light. 23. "If any man has ears to hear, let him hear." 24. And He was saying to them, "Take
care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it shall be measured to you; and more
shall be given you besides. 25. "For whoever has, to him shall more be given; and whoever
does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him."
The Word of God is called a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.
The Word of God is not brought (not put within us) to be hidden away. The Word of God is
put with in us to be put on a lamp stand and shone forth for the whole world to see.
We are not to just consume the Word of God for our own benefit. We are to hear, consume
the Word of God and shine the light of the Word of God to the world.
These verses also give a warning after the admonishment to hear and consume. WE ARE
TO BE CAREFUL OF WHAT WE ARE HEARING!!! We just can’t be listening to anybody
and everybody. We are to be careful of who we are listening to and what we are feeding on.
I believe the standard of measure that Jesus is referring to in verse 24 is what we are
listening to. If you are listening to and eating on junk—then junk is going to come forth from
you. If you are listening to error---then error is going to come forth from you.
I believe God is saying in verse 25 that if we are hearing, consuming the Word of God and
shining the light of the Word to the earth than more shall be given to us. We shall have more
meat given to us to consume so that we can feed others.
I believe God is saying in verse 25 that if you do not have the Word of God consumed in
your life and have nothing to feed others then even what you have shall be taken away.
Mark 4:26-29 And He was saying, "The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon
the soil; 27. and goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts up and
grows-- how, he himself does not know. 28. "The soil produces crops by itself; first the
blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head. 29. "But when the crop permits, he
immediately puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come."
Mark 4:30-32 And He said, "How shall we picture the kingdom of God, or by what parable
shall we present it? 31. "It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it
is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil, 32. yet when it is sown, grows up and
becomes larger than all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that THE BIRDS OF
THE AIR can NEST UNDER ITS SHADE."
God spoke to me if we will hear and consume His Word then we will certainly have a
harvest. We will put our sickle in and reap. God spoke to me if we will consume His Word
His Word will grow in us and become large within us. THEN WE CAN STAND IN THE DAY
OF PERSECUTION AND THE DAY OF BATTLE.
The Word of God must be in us and grow large within us for us to stand in the day of the
battle.
Mark 4:33 And with many such parables He was speaking the word to them as they were
able to hear it;
God will share His Word and His message with us as we are able to hear it. God wants us to
increase our ability to hear the Word of God. He wants us to become good soil that bears a
crop.
God is calling to us this morning to hear the Word of God and consume it. He wants His
Word to grow large with in us so that we bear fruit. We wants it to grow so large within us
that we not only bear fruit but we harvest a crop of thirty, sixty and a hundredfold!!
Hear and consume the Word of God.
